When is Thanksgiving 2026?
Thanksgiving in the United States is on Thursday, November 26, 2026. Next year it comes a day earlier on the calendar, on Thursday, November 25, 2027. Black Friday follows the next day, on November 27, 2026.
How the date is set
Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday of November. That rule has been federal law since late 1941, after President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday a week earlier in 1939 and some states refused to follow, leaving the country with two Thanksgivings for a while. Because of the rule, Thanksgiving can never be earlier than November 22 or later than November 28.
To work it out yourself, find the first Thursday in November and add three weeks. In 2026, November 1 is a Sunday, so the first Thursday is November 5 and Thanksgiving is November 26.
The countdown above counts calendar days in your own time zone and switches to next year's date as soon as Thanksgiving is over.
